Disabled people - Gandhi Kinderhilfe e.V. in Bad Camberg seit 1999
Caring for the disabled

In 1988, before the legal establishment of the organization, a home for mentally and physically handicapped children was built by Gandhi Kinderhilfe in Jemo with the support of Dr Roy, the father of Mr Bidhan Roy.
The institute now accommodates almost 70 handicapped men, women and children from many parts of West Bengal. The handicapped are, according to the severity of their disability, cared for together with children from the surrounding region for the whole day. They attend school and learn handicrafts. Pedagogical therapy is highly valued by us and is desperately needed.

On special occasions the handicapped and orphaned children perform plays and folk dances that they have rehearsed themselves. This is very unusual, particularly in India, because the disabled generally eke out a gloomy existence. They are frequently hidden from the public by their families. This makes it even more of a pleasure to see how neatly dressed and well fed those disabled cared for by Gandhi Kinderhilfe are, something which is not a matter of course in India. The home’s leader, Dr Manna, is responsible for their care and therapy and is available day and night for the disabled in our home.
